Embed review. Wow, what a space! I had the opportunity to catch a Sofar Sounds show at this spot and I was genuinely impressed from the moment I walked downstairs into their space. If you haven't had a chance to catch a show make the time to do so! This awesome little enclave is perfect for getting up close in personal with any performers that grace it's presence.
The venue is set in the basement level of a building adjacent to Chelsea Market, with a coat check and security staff present at the main entrance. Once you walk down you instantly enter a cozy space that is adorned with bulb lights on the ceiling, a full bar to the right, and a large main audience area that's perfect for standing, sitting, or setting up seating for concert goers.
This particular event invited people to sit on the floors with blankets and pillows included which made for an intimate feel during our time here. Since the drinks were provided by the event organizers I wasn't able to get a chance to try any signature cocktails, or look at a menu for prices. I asked the bartender however and he informed me that they have a full bar and drinks tend to be in the median range in regards to prices.
He assured me it wouldn't be anything that would break the bank. Our entire experience here was great. From staff to set up Chelsea Music Hall made the entire night seamless and gave us the perfect venue to enjoy the performances. If you're able to catch a show here, definitely do! The venue is a newly renovated part of town and this place was no exception.
Once you enter, you'll walk down a set of stairs into the stage. The inside is trendy, with cool lights lining the ceiling. There was a bunch of seating for about people at this particular event. It feels intimate comedians were able to walk through the crowd, interact, etc. A nice in between. The bar is toward the back and because it's not a huge venue, we were able to quickly get drinks and get back to our seats.
The bartenders were also fast and polite. The prices are pretty steep but I wasn't shocked, given the environment. Overall, a good experience at Chelsea Music Hall. I'll definitely be back for another round of Drag His Ass. The venue was small, but worked for the amount of people attending.
Standing room only in the middle, but there were tables and seating along the sides. The stage was a bit too low to be able to see from the back.
I found the best spot to see was from the side of the stage. Speakers on the stage were an interesting shape. There was a bar off to the side that had a good selection of beer and spirits. Dyson hand dryers were installed, but not working. Towels were provided instead. I'd come back here to see another concert. I came here a couple of weekends ago for Body Party with some friends, and I had a blast.
When we got inside, it was a bit empty but by the end of the night, it definitely got more packed. They did a really good job of setting the mood, from lighting, to the setup of the space itself. I also had a friend say that her drinks tasted weird, even the ginger ale. Not sure what that was about. This place forced me to check my bag. It was small. The staff was very rude and degrading. I paid to come here. It's really hard to understand why they were so unsavory. I will not be coming back. I am trying to get my money back, but this venue seems to have no respect for their patrons.
Regret coming here, all I can do is tell you not to make the same mistake. This place is terrible. They have embraced the New York City pretentiousness and do not allow people in, even if you have bought tickets. I will never ever step foot in Chelsea Music Hall again. I paid for tickets to enter and they were not honored. I would recommend never coming here. Great space for hip hop and house music events. The bartenders are quick and the prices are reasonable. I've been to Soul in the Horn parties and parties hosted by The Originals.
